Context
In August 2024, Chicago welcomes The Killers between two celebrations: the Rebel Diamonds retrospective tour and the twentieth anniversary of Hot Fuss. On the 3rd, the band closes Lollapalooza's T-Mobile stage in Grant Park. The appearance makes room for a musical debt to the city itself.
Brandon Flowers walks on in an embroidered suit, surrounded by lasers, images and giant letters on stage. Somebody Told Me opens the run. On For Reasons Unknown, a fan named Oscar takes over the drums. Later, Flowers pays tribute to Material Issue with Very First Lie, bringing the scale of the festival close to a personal influence.
Mr. Brightside closes the night with the intro from the Jacques Lu Cont remix and a return to All These Things That I've Done. The Hulu broadcast preserves this Chicago stop. Later that month, the band heads to its Las Vegas residency devoted to Hot Fuss: the retrospective flows into the debut album.
- Very First Lie turns the tribute to Material Issue into a gesture aimed at the city.
- A fan named Oscar takes over the drums on For Reasons Unknown.
