Context
On July 11, 2009, the road between Glasgow's clubs and Balado's main stage becomes a topic on stage. Brandon Flowers calls the night a graduation and thanks the Scots. The Killers return as T in the Park headliners, a position they had already held in 2007.
Flowers wears a feathered jacket and roams the front of the stage before sitting at the piano for Smile Like You Mean It. The song starts acoustic and turns electric. Human opens the show; Shadowplay brings Joy Division's repertoire close, while Mr. Brightside sets off a crowd chorus.
The performance is part of the BBC's coverage and remains a TV document of this stop in Scotland. In November, the same tour gets another document: Live from the Royal Albert Hall, filmed in London a few days before Balado. Different stages for a phase that carries Day & Age into 2010.
- Smile Like You Mean It moves from an acoustic opening to electric instrumentation.
