Context
Thirty years after its debut, Weezer trades arena scale for a session at Spotify's studios in Los Angeles. The 2024 meeting celebrates the Blue Album without playing it in full: it picks four songs and makes room to talk about the decisions that shaped the record.
Rivers Cuomo, Brian Bell, Scott Shriner and Patrick Wilson run through Buddy Holly, Undone - The Sweater Song and Say It Ain't So. Between performances, Karl Koch, Suzy Shinn and Barry Johnson help draw out the memories. Johnson also steps out of the conversation to share the vocals of Surf Wax America with Cuomo.
The recording arrives on June 24 as an audiovisual special, along with a digital EP of the four performances. Later that year, the celebration moves to arenas on Voyage to the Blue Planet, with the full album. Here, the session preserves another scale: four songs and their backstory, gathered in half an hour.
