Context
Rain is already heavy over Randall’s Island when the Killers' turn comes, on June 4, 2016. Almost four years separate the night from Battle Born, and no new songs make the program. A few days earlier, Mark Stoermer had announced a break from touring; the band goes through a change without stopping the shows.
Brandon Flowers introduces the group as a product of fabulous Las Vegas and leads a set that starts with Mr. Brightside. Spaceman, Human and Read My Mind cut across different phases of the band. Among the hits, Obstacle 1 brings the stage close to New York's own Interpol, while Can’t Help Falling in Love brings Elvis Presley into the selection.
The following Sunday ends up canceled in the face of a storm forecast, and Saturday's closing slot takes on another role: the Killers, without knowing it, close that edition of the festival. The performance is part of VICELAND's TV coverage. The recording preserves this interval between records, when the band holds a main stage without previewing its next work.
