Context
On May 30, 2009, Pinkpop reaches its fortieth edition, and The Killers take the Megaland during the Day & Age tour. The band arrives in Landgraaf with three studio albums and a repertoire that already lets new material sit beside the singles from their debut.
Brandon Flowers opens with Human and quickly calls up Somebody Told Me. The show alternates four tracks from Day & Age with the sheer weight of Sam's Town, which supplies six songs. Joy Division's Shadowplay breaks the run of originals. In the home stretch, Read My Mind and Mr. Brightside lead into All These Things That I've Done.
After Landgraaf, the tour moves on to Hamburg and continues around the international circuit. Later that year, the London stop yields Live from the Royal Albert Hall, a separate recording from this performance. Pinkpop preserves another slice of the same period: sixteen songs on a festival stage, closed by Jenny Was a Friend of Mine and When You Were Young.
- Shadowplay makes room for Joy Division among songs from the first three albums.
