“To catch Silverchair on the 1997 European circuit, still teenagers and already carrying their second album.”
Context
In May 1997, Silverchair moves through a run of European festivals with Freak Show still fresh. After Rock im Park and Rock am Ring, it reaches the Megaland field. Pinkpop welcomes an Australian trio that already has two albums, though its members are still in their late teens.
The set gives more room to the second album. Slave and Roses open the show; Abuse Me, Freak and Cemetery extend that block. Frogstomp lives on in Pure Massacre, Tomorrow and Madman. Daniel Johns, Chris Joannou and Ben Gillies also include Paranoid, bringing the set close to Black Sabbath's heavy blueprint.
Israel’s Son closes the musical sequence. The stop is part of the Freak Show Tour, before the change of language that would come with Neon Ballroom. Decades later, the festival archive posts the full show, preserving a specific slice of the band's first international phase.
