“To follow the Freak Show Tour from the Santa Monica stands, days before the run of European festivals.”
Context
In May 1997, the Freak Show Tour stops at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium. Silverchair is still on the North American leg of the tour, a few days before the European festivals. A camera set up in the highest stands preserves the night from a perspective inside the crowd.
Slave and Roses open the show, followed by Findaway, Abuse Me and Pure Massacre. Cemetery, Suicidal Dream and Tomorrow keep moving between the two albums. The final stretch gathers The Door, Faultline, No Association, Freak and Madman, before the return for the encore.
Black Sabbath's Paranoid comes before Israel’s Son at the close. The recording remains an audience tape made by someone who was there, later posted by the taper. Fifteen songs from a band still resting on Frogstomp and Freak Show, before the opening of language on Neon Ballroom.
