Context
In February 1996, Silverchair opens for Red Hot Chili Peppers at Madison Square Garden. Frogstomp is still the trio's only album. The surviving tape mixes part of the New York show with soundcheck material, giving the recording two distinct settings.
Madman, Leave Me Out, Findaway and Pure Massacre make up the show portion. Then the edit moves to the rehearsal, with Slave, Suicidal Dream, a jam and Pop Song for Us Rejects. Two of those songs would only reach the second album, Freak Show, the following year.
The edit does not try to replace the whole night: it keeps a selection from the stage and from the work done before the doors opened. Part of the interest lies in that split. The same trio appears fulfilling a tour opening slot and testing material that goes beyond the repertoire of its debut.
