Context
In May 1996, Therapy? arrives in Landgraaf with a still-recent change behind the drum kit. Fyfe Ewing had left in January; Graham Hopkins joined in March. Martin McCarrick also became a full-time member. Pinkpop catches this quartet in its first months together.
On the Megaland stage, Andy Cairns and Michael McKeegan move through two close but distinct phases. Loose, Stories, Misery and Bad Mother bring Infernal Love to the center of the show. Die Laughing, Nowhere and Screamager keep Troublegum in the running. Between these records, Isolation and Diane make room for Joy Division and Hüsker Dü.
The tour runs until October, before a long break. In 1997, the group focuses on writing and recording the follow-up, Semi-Detached, released in 1998. The Pinkpop footage remains in the festival's audiovisual archive and resurfaces in full in 2025, preserving the transition from the original trio to the four-member lineup.
- Diane and Isolation place Hüsker Dü and Joy Division among the songs from Infernal Love and Troublegum.
