“To see Limp Bizkit at Pinkpop before releasing its first album, in May 1997.”
Context
At one in the afternoon on May 18, 1997, Limp Bizkit takes the Megaland stage without having released its first album. The group was coming off shows with Korn and Helmet in North America and Europe. In Landgraaf, Pinkpop meets a band still introducing itself to the public.
Fred Durst takes vocals, with Wes Borland on guitar, Sam Rivers on bass, John Otto on drums and DJ Lethal on turntables. Pollution opens the sequence, which moves through Counterfeit and Nobody Loves Me. Strain spills into a jam with verses from Cambodia; Faith brings George Michael into this meeting of metal and hip-hop.
In July, Three Dollar Bill, Yall$ reaches stores and gives many of these songs a home on record. The professional Landgraaf recording remains a window onto the moment before the debut. In 2025, the festival restores the performance in its digital archive: the band still has to introduce its songs, not manage a collection of hits.
- Strain makes room for verses from Cambodia, while Faith spills into a jam on Sour.
