“To discover a video-screen recording from the 1999 Rockfest, recovered from a tape kept for almost twenty years.”
Context
June 1999 puts Silverchair at the Hard Rock Rockfest, at Atlanta Motor Speedway, in Hampton. Neon Ballroom is the center of the tour. The recording comes from the event's video-screen feed and survives on a VHS tape that would resurface almost twenty years later.
The recording starts with Pure Massacre already underway. Abuse Me comes before Emotion Sickness, and Israel’s Son links to Ana’s Song. Tomorrow and Point of View take the set up to a speech by Daniel Johns about religious organizations' attacks on Suicidal Dream.
The Door and Freak close the preserved stretch. Slave, the show's opener, is not on the tape. That absence defines the document's reach: it is a long portion of the show, recovered from a professional feed, with a cut beginning that later editing cannot restore.
