Context
On Monday, May 19, 1997, Beck takes the closing slot at Pinkpop in Landgraaf. Odelay had already widened his reach beyond Loser, and the tour runs through the European festivals. After Rock am Ring and Rock im Park, the next stage is Megaland.
On stage, guitars, bass and drums live alongside keyboards, horns and DJ Swamp's turntables. Beck alternates acoustic songs, guitars and sampler beats, without treating those languages as separate compartments. Thunder Peel opens the sequence of identified songs; The New Pollution, Sissyneck and Jack-Ass put Odelay at the center of the performance.
After Landgraaf, the schedule moves on to the United States, with a show at Red Rocks. The Pinkpop night remains recorded by Dutch TV cameras and also circulates on VHS. The document preserves a specific phase: the move from Odelay's studio experiments to an expanded band, in front of a festival.
