Context
Eight days after returning to Wigan for the big Haigh Hall show, The Verve arrives in Landgraaf. It is June 1, 1998, the last day of Pinkpop. Urban Hymns had already changed the band's scale, and it takes the festival's closing slot at Megaland.
Richard Ashcroft sings, with Nick McCabe and Simon Tong on guitars, Simon Jones on bass and Peter Salisbury on drums. This Is Music opens the way for eleven tracks from Urban Hymns. History comes between Bitter Sweet Symphony and Come On, bringing A Northern Soul back for the home stretch.
The five-piece lineup is still together, but this configuration has little time left. In July, McCabe pulls out of the road dates; in April 1999, the breakup is announced. Preserved in Pinkpop's audiovisual archive, the performance captures the band before that new rupture.
