Context
On April 29, 1995, four musicians from different paths share the stage of the Moore Theatre in Seattle. Above had reached stores the month before. Layne Staley, Mike McCready, Barrett Martin and John Baker Saunders present a project that brings Seattle rock close to its blues roots.
On stage, the ten tracks of Above find room alongside John Lennon's I Don't Wanna Be a Soldier. Mark Lanegan shares vocals on Long Gone Day and I'm Above. Skerik adds saxophone and marimba, widening the instrumentation beyond vocals, guitar, bass and drums.
The night closes the live story of the original lineup and gets a VHS release later in 1995. In 2013, the recording reaches DVD with a new edit by Duncan Sharp and four additional performances. The package also recovers RKCNDY and Self-Pollution Radio: the group's short run gets an archive larger than its discography.
- Mark Lanegan and Skerik expand the lineup on Long Gone Day.
