Context
On May 26, 1996, Life of Agony arrives at Megaland with two albums and a change of direction under way. Ugly had widened the space for melody without giving up the heaviness. On the Sunday of Pinkpop, the Brooklyn quartet puts that transition in front of a festival with a varied crowd.
Keith Caputo takes the vocals, with Joey Z. on guitar, Alan Robert on bass and Sal Abruscato on drums. This Time opens the set. Other Side of the River and Let's Pretend introduce the second album, which fills most of the program. River Runs Red and Through and Through close the meeting between the two phases.
The lineup is still together on stage, but Abruscato leaves the band after the Ugly tour. Dan Richardson takes over the drums in the next cycle, which leads to Soul Searching Sun. Pinkpop's TV recording preserves the quartet before that change: two albums share the same hour without erasing their differences.
- River Runs Red and Through and Through close a set dominated by songs from Ugly.
