Context
On July 24, 1999, Limp Bizkit arrives at Woodstock's East Stage with Significant Other freshly at the top of the American charts. The former Griffiss Air Force Base, in Rome, welcomes a band turning its mix of rap and metal into mass success, just a month after its second album.
Just Like This opens a run with six songs from the new album. Counterfeit and Stuck keep the first album in rotation, while Thieves brings Ministry to the center of the festival. In front of the stage, parts of the barriers become boards carried over the crowd. On Faith, Fred Durst also climbs onto the plywood held up by the audience.
The show is part of the festival's pay-per-view broadcast and becomes the focus of the debate over that weekend's violence. Afterward, the band answers the accusations in the Re-Arranged video and moves on to the Family Values Tour. The recording remains tied to this friction between commercial expansion, spectacle and crowd safety.
- Faith ends with Fred Durst on a plywood board held up by the crowd.
