Context
On July 24, 1999, the Ozzfest caravan comes to an end in San Bernardino. At the Blockbuster Pavilion, Primus takes its slot at the festival with Les Claypool, Larry LaLonde and Brain. Antipop has not yet hit stores, but one of its songs already finds a place on stage.
To Defy the Laws of Tradition opens the set, and Buckethead comes in on Those Damned Blue-Collar Tweekers. The guitarist also joins Too Many Puppies, which works in a snippet of Crazy Train. Between those appearances, Jerry Was a Race Car Driver and My Name Is Mud keep the early years of the decade at the center of the program.
The Antipop points toward October, when the new album reaches the public; Harold of the Rocks closes the sequence by going back to Frizzle Fry. Antipop becomes the group's last album with Brain before the 2000 hiatus. The recording preserves that moment: new material still unreleased, surrounded by the songs that already carry the band.
- Too Many Puppies makes room for a snippet of Crazy Train.
