Context
On June 1, 1998, Pinkpop reaches its final day under the Landgraaf sun. In the Roskilde Tent, Junkie XL takes an hour in the late afternoon. Saturday Teenage Kick, released the year before, carries a project that still works as a band, before Tom Holkenborg later focused on DJing.
Holkenborg handles keyboards and sequencers; Rudeboy, of Urban Dance Squad, takes the vocals. René van der Zee plays guitar and Baz Mattie, drums. The set runs through No Remorse, Metrolike and Def Beat, passes the title track and reaches Underachievers. Bustin' Like This and Billy Club close the encore, keeping the first album at the center of the performance.
The following year, Big Sounds of the Drags continues Holkenborg's partnership with Rudeboy. The band setup comes apart around 2000, and the rapper leaves the project at the end of that year. Preserved in the Dutch audiovisual archive, the performance captures a stage before the worldwide reach of the Elvis Presley remix: electronic music made by a band.
