Context
On May 24, 1999, Sebadoh takes Pinkpop's 3FM tent, in Landgraaf. The trio arrives with a recent change: Russ Pollard had replaced Bob Fay on drums. The Sebadoh, released in February, places new material among the songs that carried the band's independent path.
Lou Barlow and Jason Loewenstein split the space between melodic restraint and noise. Weird opens the selection, which moves through Careful and Skull before reaching Flame. The show does without trappings; the breaks to tune the guitars also lay bare the work between one song and the next.
After this phase, the band goes on hiatus, while Barlow focuses on the Folk Implosion and Loewenstein prepares solo work. The recording preserves eleven songs, but ends during Mind Reader. What remains is a bounded window on the trio with Pollard, before the break and the later reunions.
