Tour albumNakedSelf2000 · Naked TourThe Naked Tour presents The The's first record of new material since 1993's Dusk.“To see The The fill a last-minute slot at Pinkpop, during the Naked Tour.”
Context
An absence opens up a slot for Matt Johnson in Landgraaf. Anouk had canceled her appearance due to exhaustion, and Pinkpop calls in The The at the last minute. On June 12, 2000, the band opens the North stage, while Kane takes over the closing slot on that stage.
Johnson sings and plays guitar alongside Eric Schermerhorn, with Spencer Campbell on bass and Earl Harvin on drums. The quartet arrives with the Naked Tour and a newly released record. NakedSelf is the first album of new material since Dusk, seven years earlier, and marks the split from Sony.
The road still keeps this lineup busy before Johnson withdraws. In 2002, an experimental performance at Meltdown, at David Bowie's invitation, comes before a long absence from touring that ends in 2018. The Pinkpop footage preserves the NakedSelf quartet at a festival that welcomes it because of an unexpected change in the lineup.
