Why watch

“To see Roberto Carlos at the first edition of Emoções em Alto Mar, as he begins performing on cruise ships.”

Context

In February 2005, the Costa Victoria leaves Santos with around 2,300 passengers and a first on board. Roberto Carlos has never performed on a ship before. The first Emoções em Alto Mar turns a trip along the Brazilian coast into a musical engagement, with three performances spread across the nights of the cruise.

In the theater seating around 800, Roberto presents the Pra Sempre show in a space smaller than the large stages he usually plays. The intimacy is part of the idea: each passenger has access to one of the performances. The encounter brings the singer's hits aboard the ship, between port calls and activities on the trip.

The experience continues the following summer and establishes a recurring project in Roberto's career. The Costa Victoria welcomes him back in 2006, before the move to larger ships. This recording preserves the beginning of that story: when singing on the open sea is still a new experience, not an annual tradition.
