“To see McCartney reunite with Madrid after almost fifteen years, on the third stop of his short 2004 European tour.”
Context
Almost fifteen years separate Paul McCartney's previous visit to Madrid from this night of May 30, 2004. La Peineta hosts the third stop of the Summer Tour, which began in Gijón and has just come from Lisbon. The reunion happens on a European tour of only fourteen shows, set to close at Glastonbury.
McCartney opens with Jet and shares the stage with Rusty Anderson, Brian Ray, Wix Wickens and Abe Laboriel Jr. The set moves through Wings, the Beatles and solo albums without giving up small detours: Let Me Roll It flows into Foxy Lady, Yellow Submarine appears as a snippet and I'll Follow the Sun returns after For No One.
After Madrid, the tour heads to Zurich and crosses other European stadiums before reaching the English festival in June. The Spanish night is preserved in a recording that gathers Here Today, All Things Must Pass and two encore blocks. The close brings Helter Skelter together with the Sgt. Pepper reprise and The End.
- I'll Follow the Sun reappears as a reprise after For No One.
