Album featured at the showSimplified2005The Havana concerts present the idea behind Simplified, which revisits the band's songs and includes Perfect Love and Smile.“To see Simply Red meet Cuban musicians and dancers at the Gran Teatro, on the eve of Simplified.”
Context
In August 2005, Havana welcomes Simply Red before Simplified reaches stores. Mick Hucknall picks the Gran Teatro for two performances meant for the cameras. The meeting brings the British repertoire close to Cuban musicians and dancers, while the band prepares an album of reworkings and new songs.
On stage, A Song for You opens the way for Your Mirror, Stars and For Your Babies. Hucknall shares the spotlight with the local artists. The film moves through Sad Old Red and Holding Back the Years, takes in Perfect Love and saves If You Don't Know Me by Now for the close.
In October, Simplified reaches the public with some of these songs in new versions. The following month, the show comes out on DVD and turns the two performances into a concert film. The recording keeps the Havana meeting as a visual extension of that project, not just a retrospective of hits.
