Context
In November 2012, Rod Stewart takes the Musical Theater Basel for two consecutive nights, at 67. The festival brings together his history as a rock singer and ballad interpreter, while the release of his first Christmas album adds another front to the repertoire.
Having a Party opens the selection on this recording. Maggie May, Baby Jane and Sailing share space with the ballads, before Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, Let It Snow and Auld Lang Syne. The band brings together guitars, keyboards, saxophones, trumpet and strings.
The material from both nights circulates as the festival's TV recording. In 2013, Time takes the singer back to his own songs; here, his career still sits between a retrospective of the hits and the newly released Christmas repertoire.
