Context
On May 5, 2024, the Sugarshack backyard in Bonita Springs welcomes Stephen Marley in a phase of closeness to the acoustic format. Old Soul, released the year before, had put flute, bass and acoustic guitar at the center of his recordings. The session brings that same instrumental setup to the stage.
Stephen takes the vocals in front of five musicians. Kateri Farrell plays flute, Ranoy Gordon handles acoustic guitar and Llamar Brown is on keyboards; Kawain Williamson and Squidly Cole complete the rhythm section. Satta Massagana opens the session. Between Chase Dem and The Traffic Jam come Bob Marley songs and the title track of Old Soul.
In August, the performance is released as a Visual EP, with nine tracks in just over half an hour. The release preserves the route up to Jamming and brings Stephen's solo work close to the songs that run through his family history. The format concentrates this relationship in a short session, without separating heritage from his own work.
