Context
In February 2006, Depeche Mode arrive at the Fila Forum in Assago, near Milan, with Playing the Angel still fresh. The European leg fills the band's winter. Two shows, on the 18th and 19th, provide the raw material for the film directed by Blue Leach.
Dave Gahan leads the opening with A Pain That I'm Used To and John the Revelator. Martin Gore takes Macro and Home, then returns to lead vocals on the acoustic version of Shake the Disease. Andy Fletcher, Peter Gordeno and Christian Eigner complete the stage. Seven songs from the new album run through the main program.
The tour moves on through North America and returns to Europe before ending in August. In September, the Italian nights get a DVD release, also available in a set with a documentary and a CD. The audio disc focuses on the Playing the Angel tracks: the new phase stays at the center, even surrounded by the old hits.
- Martin Gore takes Macro, Home and the acoustic version of Shake the Disease.
