“To see the 2010 farewell in front of the Sydney Opera House, before the break that ends in 2015.”
Context
On October 13, 2010, the Sydney Opera House is the backdrop for an announced farewell. After 25 years, Mick Hucknall is preparing to wind up Simply Red. The tour that began in 2009 reaches the venue's outdoor forecourt with a retrospective that goes beyond the biggest hits.
Out On The Range opens the way for Your Mirror and Jericho. Hucknall sings in front of six musicians, with Ian Kirkham on musical direction, saxophone and keyboards. Heaven brings in the Talking Heads songbook; You Make Me Feel Brand New and If You Don't Know Me By Now reinforce the tie to American soul.
Stars and Fairground fill the first encore; Something Got Me Started and Holding Back The Years close the second. The recording reaches DVD and CD that same November, before the tour ends in London in December. The farewell takes the form of a film, but it is not final: the band returns to the stage in 2015.
