“To see Simply Red celebrate 25 years at Viña's fiftieth edition, during their farewell cycle.”
Context
In February 2009, two celebrations meet at the Quinta Vergara: the Viña del Mar Festival reaches its fiftieth edition, while Simply Red mark 25 years of career. The greatest hits compilation had come out in November. The Chile visit also carries the prospect of a farewell.
Mick Hucknall opens with It's Only Love and leads the ballads Holding Back the Years and You Make Me Feel Brand New. Fake shifts the axis of the performance and gets the crowd dancing. Piano and saxophone get room, while Something Got Me Started and Fairground carry the most danceable part of the night.
The torches and the Gaviota arrive before an exit the crowd won't accept: even after If You Don't Know Me by Now, the calls keep coming. The group's farewell is only completed in 2010. The recording remains in the festival's audiovisual collection, preserved by Viña del Mar's municipal historical archive.
- Fake marks the turn from soul ballads to the dance floor.
