Context
On April 1, 2004, Toronto hosts a show that should have happened the previous December. Flu and laryngitis had derailed the plans. Now Bowie arrives at the Air Canada Centre with A Reality Tour, balancing the recent songs of Reality with a catalog he does not treat as a museum piece.
Rebel Rebel and Modern Love open the way for New Killer Star. Among the hits, Bowie fits in Quicksand, goes through Heathen and pares Days down to an acoustic version. He also jokes: he introduces Toronto as Sterling Campbell's hometown and then takes the story back. In the encore, Starman starts four consecutive songs from the Ziggy Stardust era.
The road moves on to Ottawa the next night but ends ahead of schedule in June, because of heart problems. This becomes Bowie's last tour. The tour's official DVD gathers shows in Dublin; Toronto survives here on a DV tape with digital audio laid over it, preserving another combination of that shifting set.
- The encore brings together Starman, Five Years, Suffragette City and Ziggy Stardust.
