Context
On June 5, 2023, Simply Red trade arena scale for the O2 Shepherd's Bush Empire, in London. Time had reached stores ten days earlier. The launch show brings the new songs close to the audience, on a one-off night streamed live online.
Mick Hucknall walks on in a dark suit and sunglasses, with six musicians around him. Better With You paves the way for She's Got It Bad and Thrill Me. Kenji Suzuki sharpens the funk guitar; Ian Kirkham brings the saxophone to the foreground. On Stars, the crowd in the galleries stands up and sings.
The closing Nutbush City Limits turns the encore into a tribute to Tina Turner. After London, the band moves on to European stages with Time worked into the set. The stream initially offers a 24-hour replay; in November, the full recording gets a free screening, preserving this smaller-scale show.
- Shades 22 and both parts of Just Like You make their live debuts.
- Nutbush City Limits closes the night in tribute to Tina Turner.
