Tour albumMusicology2004 · Musicology Live 2004everThe album accompanies the tour, with copies handed out to concertgoers and three tracks in this night's set.“To see Prince take the start of the Musicology tour to movie theaters, two weeks after entering the Hall of Fame.”
Context
On March 29, 2004, the Staples Center also serves as the starting point for an audience spread across American movie theaters. Prince arrives in Los Angeles two weeks after entering the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Musicology Live 2004ever had opened in Reno two days earlier.
Musicology opens the night and quickly meets Let's Go Crazy, I Would Die 4 U and When Doves Cry. John Blackwell and Rhonda Smith drive the band, surrounded by guitars, keyboards and horns. Further on, Prince trades the full lineup for an acoustic guitar, moving through Forever in My Life and Sometimes It Snows in April.
Purple Rain closes a performance that goes out live by satellite, reaching other cities without needing a home video release. The tour runs until September, while Musicology reaches stores and comes with the tickets. Record and stage become part of the same operation: every concertgoer takes music home.
- The solo acoustic set gathers Forever in My Life, Little Red Corvette and Sometimes It Snows in April.
