Context
Less than a year after playing the Restelo, Elton John returns to Lisbon on May 22, 2010. This time he takes Parque da Bela Vista, on the second day of Rock in Rio. The night also opens his European tour, with a band that brings together veterans and keyboardist Kim Bullard.
Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding paves the way for Saturday Night's Alright (For Fighting). Elton praises Lisbon and the weather before introducing Levon and Tiny Dancer, both from Madman Across the Water. Davey Johnstone, Bob Birch and John Mahon carry the passage between guitars, bass and percussion, while Crocodile Rock brings stage and crowd together.
The encore trades the drive of Crocodile Rock for Candle in the Wind and Your Song. After Lisbon, the schedule moves on to the Mawazine festival, in Rabat, and crosses other cities as far as the Faroe Islands. Broadcast on television, the performance preserves the start of the journey: nineteen numbers, with no new record needed to shape the night.
- Candle in the Wind and Your Song close the performance in the encore.
