Context
Two days after Glastonbury, David Bowie trades the festival for an audience of guests and BowieNet members in London. It is June 27, 2000. At the BBC Radio Theatre, the same band closes a short run of shows between the United States and England.
Bowie opens with Wild Is the Wind and moves through Ashes to Ashes and Absolute Beginners. Earl Slick and Mark Plati share the guitars; Gail Ann Dorsey takes bass, with Mike Garson on keyboards and Sterling Campbell on drums. The television cut spans decades before reaching I'm Afraid of Americans.
The night yields 22 songs, but the BBC takes eleven to television in September. Part of the audio also finds a place on the limited edition of Bowie at the Beeb. Shortly after the London show, the musicians go into the Toy sessions: the stage works as a waypoint between the catalog review and the next project.
- Wild Is the Wind opens the television edit; I'm Afraid of Americans closes the eleven-song cut.
