Context
On June 8, 2014, Twenty One Pilots comes to Pinkpop for the first time. Blurryface is still in the future; Vessel carries the set on the Brand Bier Stage, in Landgraaf. Tyler Joseph and Josh Dun walk on in masks and open the show with Guns for Hands.
Joseph sings at the piano, changes costumes and pushes out into the crowd. Dun takes his drums onto a platform held up by hands. Holding On to You draws one of the biggest responses from the audience; on Car Radio, the singer climbs the lighting rig to the top of the tent.
Trees closes the performance with both musicians playing percussion over the crowd. The footage produced by NTR preserves this festival debut and is part of the Dutch audiovisual archive. Eight years later, the duo returns to Pinkpop on the main stage: the 2014 tent remains a concrete measure of the change.
- Car Radio takes Tyler Joseph to the top of the lighting rig.
- Trees ends with both musicians playing percussion over the crowd.
