Context
At 10:15 p.m. on July 8, 2017, Depeche Mode takes the NOS Alive stage at the Passeio Marítimo de Algés. Four years after its previous appearance at the festival, the band returns with Spirit and the first European leg of the Global Spirit Tour underway.
Going Backwards opens the show, and Cover Me and Where's the Revolution keep the new record among songs from other decades. Martin Gore takes Judas in an acoustic version and returns to center stage for Home in the encore. Between those moments, Happy Birthday to You interrupts the sequence to honor Andy Fletcher.
The night also reaches those far from the grounds, with an internet, television and radio broadcast. The tour runs until July 2018 and becomes the last one with Fletcher. Its Berlin finale yields the film Spirits in the Forest; Algés remains a broadcast record of this lineup still together.
- Martin Gore sings Judas in an acoustic version and opens the encore with Home.
