Context
In September 2016, the iHeartRadio Music Festival changes address and moves to T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. It is on this new stage that Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith present songs with three decades on the road. The duo comes off a season that also marks their return to British stages after more than ten years.
On the night of September 24, Tears for Fears opens with Everybody Wants to Rule the World and goes straight to the core of its history. Sowing the Seeds of Love and Mad World cross different phases of the band. Head Over Heels sets up the close with Shout; three of the five songs come from Songs from the Big Chair.
The performance is part of the festival's live stream on the CW's platform. In October, the event also reaches television in a special split over two nights. The recording preserves a compact snapshot of the active duo, before the joint tour with Hall & Oates in 2017: five songs, with no new material, carry its presence at the Las Vegas pop gathering.
