Context
In February 1995, John Denver's landscape fits inside a studio in New York. At Sony Music Studios, he gathers songs of the road, the mountains and domestic life for a production tied to environmental conservation. The occasion brings together two strands of his work: popular music and the defense of nature.
Denver sings and plays acoustic guitar in front of a lineup with piano, bass, percussion and strings. James Burton adds guitar and dobro; Jim Horn joins on saxophone and flutes. Eagles and Horses opens the program, which alternates hits, interviews and images of animals. Amazon and Calypso place environmental concern inside the song selection itself.
The recording circulates in 1995 as a television special, home video and double album. The editions are not identical: the film preserves songs missing from the CD and reorders the sequence of the sessions. It later reaches DVD. More than a retrospective of hits, the project keeps conservation as part of Denver's work, not as an appendix.
- Leaving on a Jet Plane and Goodbye Again close the program as a medley.
