Context
On March 7, 1996, Mariah Carey arrives at the Tokyo Dome for her first show in Japan. The night also opens the Daydream World Tour, her first tour with dates outside the United States. After a first tour limited to American soil, the stage now changes scale and continent.
Emotions opens the sung sequence, followed by Open Arms and Forever. Fantasy and Always Be My Baby put Daydream at the center of the night, while Vision of Love revisits the start of her career. On One Sweet Day, Mariah sings with the recorded voices of Boyz II Men; in the encore, she brings All I Want for Christmas Is You to March.
The tour plays two more dates at the Tokyo Dome before reaching Europe and ending in London in June. The Japanese recording gets another life in 2020: the audio is part of The Rarities, and the Japanese edition adds the complete show on Blu-ray. Her debut in the country no longer depends on memories of the television broadcast.
- All I Want for Christmas Is You closes the encore of a show held in March.
