“To see Scorpions open the Karaiskakis as a concert venue, in front of about 25,000 people.”
Context
On July 18, 2005, about 25,000 people fill the Karaiskakis in Piraeus, in the Athens area. The stadium debuts as a concert venue with Scorpions. The band arrives on the Unbreakable tour, after the symphonic and acoustic projects that marked the start of the decade.
At 9:30 p.m., Klaus Meine, Rudolf Schenker, Matthias Jabs, James Kottak and Paweł Mąciwoda come on with New Generation and Love 'Em or Leave 'Em. Holiday gets a full performance; In Trance finds the crowd singing every line. Meine announces No One Like You as a first on Greek stages, and the audience answers by jumping on the floor and in the stands.
The encore goes through Coming Home, Still Loving You and Rock You Like a Hurricane before When the Smoke Is Going Down closes the night. Two days later, the tour moves on to Thessaloniki and continues into 2006. Filmed by Greek public television, the show gets an afterlife on TV: a football stadium preserved as hard rock territory.
- No One Like You arrives as a debut on Greek stages, announced by Klaus Meine.
- Holiday appears in full, followed by the crowd's chorus on In Trance.
