“To see the Scorpions on Swiss television in 1977, before the last studio album with Uli Jon Roth.”
Context
In May 1977, the Scorpions reach Swiss television between two albums: Virgin Killer is already in stores, while Taken by Force still belongs to the future. In Lausanne, at the Palais de Beaulieu, Kaléidospop condenses into less than half an hour the band of the Uli Jon Roth era.
All Night Long opens the session, and Pictured Life, Backstage Queen and Polar Nights put the most recent album at the center of the sequence. Klaus Meine shares the lineup with Roth, Rudolf Schenker and Francis Buchholz. In Trance runs through the second half; Speedy's Coming, Dark Lady and Robot Man complete the eight songs.
Later that year, Taken by Force arrives with Herman Rarebell on drums and marks the Scorpions' last studio album with Roth. The guitarist leaves in 1978. The Kaléidospop session remains a television document of this seventies lineup; its songs resurface individually in 2023, before the full session is made available in 2024.
