“To see Scorpions' fiftieth anniversary meet the tenth edition of Hellfest, with James Kottak on drums.”
Context
Fifty years of the band meet ten years of Hellfest in Clisson. On June 20, 2015, Scorpions headlines Saturday, after the festival's fireworks. Return to Forever had already reached stores, and the celebration also makes room for new material.
Going Out with a Bang opens the show, while We Built This House reappears among songs from other decades. Rudolf Schenker and Matthias Jabs share the guitars; Klaus Meine leads the singing. The seventies medley squeezes four tracks together, the acoustic block changes the scale and James Kottak takes center stage with his solo.
The night gets a second life in March 2016, when it comes out on DVD in the tour edition of Return to Forever, alongside the Brooklyn concert. The release turns the Clisson stop into a document of the anniversary: a fifty-year-old band still putting recent songs in front of its big hits.
- Delicate Dance spotlights Matthias Jabs, while Kottak Attack gives James Kottak a segment of his own.
