“To see the Love at First Sting–tour Scorpions take the stage at the first edition of Rock in Rio.”
Context
In January 1985, Jacarepaguá hosts the first edition of Rock in Rio. Scorpions arrives at the Cidade do Rock on the Love at First Sting tour, the album released the year before. The band plays two nights of the festival, both on bills that also include AC/DC.
Coming Home opens the show, followed by Blackout and Bad Boys Running Wild. Klaus Meine takes the vocals between Rudolf Schenker's and Matthias Jabs's guitars, with Francis Buchholz and Herman Rarebell in the rhythm section. Holiday and Still Loving You come back to back; Rock You Like a Hurricane follows right after, before the final stretch with Dynamite and The Zoo.
After the Brazilian shows, the tour heads to Japan that same January. The same year, World Wide Live brings a portrait of this international run to record and VHS, without being the complete Rio show. The festival's television recording preserves another slice of the era: this quintet's visit to the first Rock in Rio.
- Holiday and Still Loving You appear side by side, before Rock You Like a Hurricane.
