“To see Scorpions at Japan's Super Rock in 1984, a few months after the arrival of Love at First Sting.”
Context
In August 1984, Seibu Stadium in Tokorozawa hosts two days of Super Rock '84 in Japan. Scorpions shares the festival with Whitesnake, Michael Schenker Group, Bon Jovi and Anvil. Love at First Sting had arrived in March; now its songs take a Japanese stage on the tour named after the album.
Blackout opens the run, followed by Coming Home and Bad Boys Running Wild. Klaus Meine takes the vocals, with Rudolf Schenker and Matthias Jabs on guitars, Francis Buchholz on bass and Herman Rarebell on drums. Big City Nights and Rock You Like a Hurricane find room between Make It Real, Coast to Coast and The Zoo.
The recording from the 11th and 12th is released on video in 1984. The edit concentrates eleven songs and ends with Can't Get Enough, from Lovedrive. The road goes on: in January 1985, the tour passes through Rock in Rio and then returns to Japan. Tokorozawa captures one stage of that run, with the new material already woven into the set.
