“To see the Scorpions at Wacken in the show announced as their likely farewell to German open-air stages.”
Context
On August 4, 2012, Wacken hosts a farewell that never comes true. The Scorpions arrive with the Final Sting, a leg of the Sting in the Tail tour. The show is announced as the band's likely last open-air performance on German soil.
On the Black Stage, Klaus Meine sings between the guitars of Rudolf Schenker and Matthias Jabs. Paweł Mąciwoda and James Kottak complete the quintet. The Zoo and Coast to Coast run through the first part; Dynamite shares space with Kottak Attack. In the encore, Coming Home is joined by a scorpion statue.
A week later, on August 11, ARTE airs a ninety-minute special devoted to the show. The farewell loses its finality: the group stays active and extends the tour until 2014. The recording preserves this contrast between the announced ending and a career that keeps going.
- Coming Home brings a scorpion statue to the stage during the encore.
