Context
On October 14, 1990, Frankfurt welcomes a Depeche Mode that had already crossed North America, Australia and Japan on that tour. Violator expands the band's scale, and the Festhalle hosts the European leg with Dave Gahan, Martin Gore, Alan Wilder and Andy Fletcher.
World in My Eyes opens the performance, followed by Halo. The new record takes up eight of the nineteen songs, but shares space with Everything Counts and Never Let Me Down Again. At the center of the night, Gore takes Here Is the House and Sweetest Perfection in acoustic versions. Gahan sings Route 66 to close the second encore.
The tour runs until November and ends in Birmingham, without producing an official live album or film. The proximity of 101 weighs on that decision. Frankfurt stays in circulation through audience footage: a document of the Violator era that preserves an entire night outside the band's official filmography.
- Martin Gore takes the acoustic stretch with Here Is the House and Sweetest Perfection.
