Context
On June 10, 2000, Nuremberg welcomes Rage Against the Machine on The Battle of Los Angeles tour. The third album had reached number one in the United States months earlier. At the Frankenstadion, Zack de la Rocha, Tom Morello, Tim Commerford and Brad Wilk still share the stage in the original lineup.
Bombtrack opens the show, followed by Testify and Guerrilla Radio, two tracks from the latest album. The television selection moves through People of the Sun and Bullet in the Head, makes room for Bruce Springsteen with The Ghost of Tom Joad and intercuts interviews with Morello. Freedom and Killing in the Name close the edit.
The next day, the band moves on to Rock am Ring. In October, Zack announces his departure, ending that first phase. The Nuremberg stop remains in an edit broadcast by the German channels 3sat and BR: about 43 minutes that preserve nine songs but leave part of the show off screen.
- The Ghost of Tom Joad places Bruce Springsteen between Bullet in the Head and Know Your Enemy.
