“To see Céline close the 1998–1999 tour in Montreal, on the New Year's Eve before her career break.”
Context
On December 31, 1999, Montreal hosts a farewell timed to run past midnight. Céline Dion closes the Let's Talk About Love World Tour at the Centre Molson and prepares to step back from her career. After a year marked by René Angélil's cancer treatment, the celebration also has a family dimension.
On stage, French and English share the space. Garou, Daniel Lavoie, Luck Mervil and Bruno Pelletier come in for duets; Bryan Adams takes on Summer of '69 and stays to sing with Céline. My Heart Will Go On opens the musical journey, while Ce n'était qu'un rêve returns in the encore after passing through the acoustic medley.
The countdown comes after L'amour existe encore. René joins Céline for the midnight kiss, and the night takes on the meaning of a personal passage, beyond the calendar. The performance is recorded for television as La dernière de Céline. The title does not announce a definitive end: it marks the space she opens for a life off the stage.
- Bryan Adams gets a set of his own and shares three duets with Céline.
