“To see the European leg of Sacred and Profane a few weeks before the Pumpkins' farewell in Chicago.”
Context
The Smashing Pumpkins arrive at Paris-Bercy on October 19, 2000, on the Sacred and Profane tour. The show belongs to the band's last months before the end of that lineup and of the original cycle.
The documented set gathers Glass and the Ghost Children, Stand Inside Your Love and material from Machina. Earlier songs and covers widen the night, with Talking Heads' Once in a Lifetime and David Essex's Rock On.
In December, the Pumpkins close this chapter with shows in Chicago. The Paris file preserves a European stop before the farewell. The link to that final stretch gives the recording its historical meaning, without turning the show into the band's last.
