Context
In August 2004, the Creedence past meets songs that have not yet reached the stores. John Fogerty enters KLRU-TV's Studio 6A with Deja Vu All Over Again on the way. The session opens the thirtieth season of Austin City Limits, between familiar classics and new material.
Born on the Bayou and Green River open the performance. Fogerty shares the stage with Billy Burnette, Bob Britt, George Hawkins and John Molo. Jerry Douglas adds dobro to two songs; Viktor Krauss takes the upright bass on Rhubarb Pie. On the new album's title track, Ian McLagan plays Hammond organ.
The album arrives in September, before the session airs on television in the second half of the year. Its title track brings the Iraq war close to the memory of Vietnam, a theme that runs through Fogerty's work since Creedence. The recording preserves this meeting: the songwriter presents new songs without setting aside the hits that follow him.
- Jerry Douglas, Viktor Krauss and Ian McLagan join the session.
