“To see McCartney's first performance in Quebec City turn the city's 400th anniversary into a free concert.”
Context
Quebec City turns 400 and opens the Plains of Abraham for a meeting that had never happened: Paul McCartney had never played the city. On July 20, 2008, the free concert draws more than 250,000 people. The Stills and Pascale Picard Band open the celebration.
McCartney starts with Jet and moves through the Beatles, Wings and his solo career without arranging the past in separate blocks. Only Mama Knows appears early on; Dance Tonight also brings Memory Almost Full to the party. Between songs, he speaks French. A Day in the Life works in Give Peace a Chance before the final run and the two encores.
The night is broadcast on television, but gets no complete DVD: McCartney's organization turns that option down. In December, TVA prepares a two-hour edit with additional footage, while excerpts make it into the city's commemorative package. The recording keeps a meeting of unusual scale: a local debut turned into a public celebration.
- A Day in the Life flows into Give Peace a Chance.
